Pool Openings and Closings

Call J.C. Pools to schedule your opening or closing services! Scheduling is on a first-come, first-served basis, so reserve your date today. Note: Inclement weather may affect scheduling dates.

Standard, One-Visit Opening/Closing Options:

  • Full Service with Tarp Cover
  • Full Service with Safety Cover
  • Economy*

Additional Charges

  • Attached Spa (spa attached to pool)
  • Saturdays

* Remove/fold or unfold/install the pool's cover yourself

Full service includes cover removal/installation and readying of all equipment for operation/winterizing.

Standard Full-Service Opening consists of:

  • Clean off cover. All leaves and debris will be piled next to the pool, of if homeowner leaves trash barrels near the pool the leaves will be put into the barrels for homeowner's disposal. J.C. Pools does not haul away leaves or debris.
  • Remove pool cover, fold and leave near pool for homeowner to put away.
  • Fully prepare pool for operation (remove plugs, install jet nozzles, assemble equipment, install ladders, hand rails).
  • Add or leave opening pool chemicals (algaecide & shock).
  • Start up equipment, if pool is full enough.

Homeowner is responsible for:

  • Placing all necessary pool parts such as pump basket, plugs, jet nozzles, skimmer baskets, handrails, filter powder (if used) near pool before the crew arrives.
  • Turning on pool power supply.
  • Turning on outside water supply and making garden hose available.
  • Filling of pool to normal operating level prior to your pool opening day.
  • Start up of pool if pool is not full at time of opening.
  • Cleaning of pool itself, pool filter and any other items such as solar cover or winter cover.
  • Installation of any accessories such as solar cover and/or reel.
  • All chemical testing and balancing of pool water.

It is very important, after opening, that you keep the pool filter running, clean the filter and add chemicals to help the pool achieve balance and clarity so it is easier to vacuum when you are ready to do so.

We do not clean or vacuum pools at opening. Care will be taken to get as little debris into the pool during cover removal as possible, but some debris is destined to fall into the pool (especially with tarp covers), this is unavoidable and we do not vacuum it out. Once the pool clears after a few days you should be able to clean the filter and vacuum to pool. While we will test and do the initial water balancing adjustments your should still pay special attention to your water balance and filter operation during the first couple of weeks, testing daily and adjusting as needed. Remember, without proper pH and alkalinity your chlorine or bromine or shock will NOT clear the pool by itself – so pay special attention to these!!

In order for us to start your pool at the time of opening visit you will need to complete the following PRIOR to your opening date:

Tarp covered pools: remove leaves and debris, pump off water and fill the pool under cover.

Loop Loc/Safety covered pools: Fill pool to operating level under the cover.

Standard Full-Service Closing consists of:

  • Fully prepare pool for winter (blow water from all lines and install plugs, remove jet nozzles, winterize equipment, remove ladders and hand rails).
  • Installing pool's winter cover
  • Add winterizing pool chemicals (algaecide & shock).

Homeowner is responsible for:

  • Balancing of pool water chemisty prior to closing pool! Water chemistry should be kept up to par until pool is closed. It is critical to preservation of interior pool surface during the winter. Improper pH, alkalinity, or hardness can cause severe damage if left that way over the winter months while the pool is partially filled and not running. J.C. Pools does not adjust these levels and is not responsible for damage incurred by improper water chemistry.
  • Cleaning/vacuuming of pool itself. J.C. Pools does not clean or vacuum pools at closing. Homeowner should clean and vacuum pool, clean filter, remove solar blanket and pool toys the weekend before the pool is closed. A clean pool at closing will make your opening go more smoothly in the spring!
  • Removing any accessories such as solar cover and/or reel, pool toys, etc.
  • Placing all necessary pool closing parts (such as plugs, Gizmos, cover and tubes/springs) near pool before the crew arrives. (Parts removed for winter will be placed in your pump's strainer basket for you to store until spring.
  • Turning off pool power supply.
